MILTON OVERCOMES ERRORS, RALLIES TO WIN, 4-3

It was a marquee matchup of two great southpaws, Lefty Gomez and Lefty Grove. But in the end, it was the bullpens that got the decision.

Harlem jumped off to a 2-0 lead in the second after Pete Fox dropped a fly ball off the bat of Mike Kreevich. The next batter, Joe Cronin, doubled to score them both. Milton got one back in the bottom of the frame on a Gabby Hartnett home run. Lefty Grove settled down from there, shutting out Milton through the seventh.

With a 3-1 lead, Grove got into trouble, culminating with Moose Solter's double which tied the game. Al Smith took over, and in the bottom of the ninth, retired the first two batters before surrendering three straight singles. Dolph Camilli, batting with the bases loaded, worked it to a full count before singling and scoring Pinky Whitney, giving Milton a 4-3 win.

Game 4 will be tomorrow, when Elden Auker of Milton faces Luke Hamlin of Harlem.
