Biography
In 1935, George Barr opened the first umpiring school. On September 18, 1946, Barr suffered a heart attack during a Cubs - Giants game, but recovered to umpire three more years.
As the plate umpire during a rainy 1949 game in Boston, Barr ejected the Braves' Connie Ryan after Ryan protested the decision not to call the game by kneeling in the on-deck circle wearing a raincoat.
